In this work Olowska engages with the influence of Western punk culture in Poland in the 1980s. Juxtaposing photographs of the underground Polish punk band Kryzys alongside a reproduction of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's self-portrait Der Trinker Olowska calls for a reflection on the persecution of artists in authoritarian regimes. This historical juxtaposition is deliberately cultivated as a means for Olowska to re-cast the history of Poland, 'pulling things from the past to create my own language, through mixing experiences of both East and West' so as to 'present vision of an idealized history in a subjective rather than analytical way'.
