Not even two months after the acquisition of Boetti's "Addizione", the gallery owner called me: there was a surprise for us. We hurried to the gallery and... found there what we immediately called "the twin" of our embroidery. This time it is "Sottrazione" (Subtraction): again executed in 1974, similar dimensions, same excellent provenance, same perfect condition, same beauty. Don't think for a minute that we are always so fortunate: I could draw up a long list of works that have eluded us, as well as the wounds inflicted inside me by the disappointment of losing things "not spotted" in time.
At any rate, we could not leave this embroidery there: we would never have forgiven ourselves for separating them. We returned home full of contentment.
Sottrazione, unlike Addizione, develops in a horizontal direction:
numbers - numbers - numbers ....
One twin that expresses itself in the opposite way to the other, not only in the mathematical operation represented, but also in its structural conformation.
