《花卉》是趙無極於1953年在巴黎繪製的畫作，很明顯屬於早期作品，並在同一私人收藏中收藏了近七十年。大量彎曲的黃色水仙花從一個大碗中喜氣洋洋的向外綻放，在一個溫暖、朦朧的深藍色與緋紅色的背景上，宛如水晶般的閃閃發亮。盛開的花朵以基本形式的簡潔、藝術符號描繪，顯示出保羅·克利 (Paul Klee) 對趙無極具象作品充滿詩情意境的影響，以及他對中國商代甲骨文的興趣，而中國正是趙無極出生、成長，並生活到將近三十歲的地方。在此同時，這幅作品光芒閃爍的背景，似乎預示著趙無極之後轉向抽象藝術，觀者會看到在其抽象表現中，他將形式溶解並轉化為華麗豐富、煙霧迷濛的色彩領域，進而與法國印象派以及紐約的抽象表現主義相互呼應。
