Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale
Sale Overview
This October, the Post-War and Contemporary Evening Sale will present highlights by Francis Bacon, Peter Doig, David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein in addition to three works formerly a part of the prestigious Crex Collection, including a large-scale work by Georg Baselitz alongside works by Robert Mangold and Markus Lüpertz. In addition to Peter Doig's 1993 masterpiece Boiler House from his seminal Concrete Cabin series, leading the sale is David Hockney's Portrait of Sir David Webster - an exquisite tribute to Sir David Webster: the former General Administrator of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Christie’s will offer Marina Abramović’s The Life, the first Mixed Reality artwork, and the only work of its kind to be presented at auction. The performance previewed at the Serpentine in 2019. We will also continue the theme of Frieze week with the inclusion of paintings by contemporary names such as Daniel Richter’s Tarifa, a highlight of the recent Whitechapel Gallery exhibition, ‘Radical Figures: Painting in a New Millennium’.
Please contact Client Services at bidsuk@christies.com if you wish to attend the auction in person. Due to limited capacity in the sale room, seating will need to be reserved in advance.
