Lot Essay

The design for these candlesticks is closely related to the designs of Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier(see for example P. Fuhring, Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier Un Génie du rococo 1695-1750, Turin, 1999, p.352, no. 77 and no. 78.)

A pair of ormolu candlesticks of the same model, attributed to Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier, from the collection of the Marquesses of Hertford are at Wallace House, London (The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Furniture, London, 1996, p.1203).
