Lot Essay

In 1976, Tudor introduced its third variation of chronographs. These models are referred to as, "Big Block" in the watch community. These were the first Tudor chronographs to house an automatic movement. The present watch features a black dial with silver registers and a faded black bezel. This model features screw-down pushers reminiscent of the Rolex 6263 and 6265 Daytonas.

This Tudor chronograph was previously owned by Giovanni Trapattoni, the legendary Italian football manager. Originally, retailed by Wempe in Munich, Germany and accompanied by the original stamped Tudor guarantee, the watch includes a signed photograph printed by Opel showing Mr. Trapattoni as the manager of FC Bayern Munich. The Tudor guarantee also features his bold signature on the reverse side.

Mr. Trapattoni earned the nickname “Trap” or “Il Trap” and is considered by many to be the most successful club coach in the history of the Italian league “Serie A”.
