Hong Kong & Asia internships
The programme
The Hong Kong and Asia Internship programme is run for the benefit of current graduate or undergraduate students as well as recent graduates (within one year of graduation) with a genuine interest in art, business and a career in the art world. By allowing Interns to immerse themselves in the practical operations of the company, Internships provide an insight into Christie’s work and its role in the art world. Two- to six-month placements are available (depending on seasonal business operations and availability of the candidate) during the Spring or Autumn season at Christie's offices in Asia.
Responsibilities
Christie’s believes that experience is best gained through practical involvement in the activities of our departments. Interns will be asked to undertake a variety of tasks and projects throughout their time at Christie’s and these vary depending on the department's needs and where they are in their sale cycle.
Tasks may include (but are not limited to):
• Archiving
• Catalogue notes
• Research on specific works of art, artists, museums, etc.
• Managing libraries
• Working with the galleries for exhibition set up
• Client service
• Administrative duties
• Specific projects as assigned by manager
• Content creation for social media
• Translation
Finer details
Interns are paid and employed on a two- to six-month fixed-term, temporary contract, usually around February to June for the Spring Season and August to December for the Autumn Season. They are full-time positions with a limited number of part-time opportunities available, eligible to current graduate or undergraduate students as well as recent graduates within one year of graduation. To allow others an opportunity to gain experience, we regret that Internships cannot extend beyond a total duration of 12 months.
The standard hours worked by Christie's Asia are 9:30am to 6pm (Monday to Friday). Some regions may vary according to their business needs. As many of Christie's most exciting events and activities such as major sales and functions take place in the evenings and during weekends, we strongly recommend that Interns become involved in these events, if possible, by taking an active role in their organisation.
Choice of department
Successful applicants will be allocated to an available department that most closely matches their preferences. Although we make all reasonable efforts to place individuals in their preferred department, this is not always possible due to the volume of interest versus places available. Please be assured that wherever individuals are placed they will gain valuable insight into Christie’s, whether in a specialist or business department.
Eligibility
We undertake a selection process based on formal criteria, the online application form and an interview.
Examples of key criteria include:
• History of art (or other relevant area) or business-related discipline.
• Some work experience would be an advantage but not a must.
• Excellent language skills (proficient in written and spoken English, Cantonese/Mandarin or other native languages of the location).
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
• Team player and proactive.
• Knowledge and skills on technological tools.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not available in every locations, therefore, applicants might need to be eligible to work in the location for the full length of the Internship for which they are applying. Apart from the paid wages, we do not reimburse travel, housing or other expenses.
