Sale Overview
On 13 May, Christie’s will offer the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale and The Collection of Thomas and Doris Ammann Day Sale as part of the 20/21 Sale Week. The Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale will feature two sessions at 9:30am and 3:30pm, with The Collection of Thomas and Doris Ammann Day Sale beginning at 1:30pm.
The two-part Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale on 13 May showcases iconic examples by the visionaries of the past century. The sales are headlined by leading 20th century masters such as Wayne Thiebaud, Roy Lichtenstein, Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol, alongside celebrated avant-garde artists of the 21st century ranging from Jeff Koons, Jack Whitten, Shara Hughes to Nicolas Party. Highlights will feature works culled from distinguished private and public collections, including The Collection of Margo Leavin, Property from the Estate of Sondra Gilman, LA Cool: Property from the Laura Lee Stearns Collection, and the Farnsworth Art Museum. Continuing Christie’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy, the sale will also support causes such as From the Studio to Benefit amfAR Making Aids History, CORE, Bronx Museum and Artists for Ukraine.
The Collection of Thomas and Doris Ammann Day Sale will divide the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale sessions and will be the second live auction dedicated to this monumental collection. The Day Sale will showcase a range of 20th century examples that beautifully illustrate the breadth and depth of the Ammann's collecting vision. Highlights include works by Brice Marden, Martin Kippenberger and Mike Bidlo. From Pop Art of the 1960s to Neo-Expressionism of the 1980s, this sale perfectly captures the artistic zeitgeist of the era. The Foundation’s proceeds from the Collection will benefit the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation, a newly established organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide.
